The article “Jennifer Lawrence Nude
Photo Leak Isn't A 'Scandal.' It's A Sex Crime.” by Scott
Mendelson tells
us how unethical it is to go through someone’s private life and how the world
is a free place, that any person is free to do whatever s/he wants even if it
was to keep a nude photo of themselves on their phone. Scott states this
article was a sex crime and not a scandal because, he believes that its not really
the victim’s fault that their pictures were published; they simply thought that
their photos were safe.
Honestly, when I
first heard about this leaked naked photos of celebrities, I thought it was
some washed down celebrity trying to be famous again by leaking their own
photos on the web and playing the innocent victim, however when I found out it
was Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, model Kate Upton and actress Victoria
Justice I was stunned, because why would someone who is truly famous leak their
own nude photos, it didn’t really make sense.
Some of the articles that I have read are
mostly stating the incident as a scandal rather than a sex crime but when you
come to think of it, it is a little bit of both a scandal and a sex crime: The
stars did not do anything wrong as many people would suggest and they did not
have anything to be sorry about, even though it is true that they didn’t have
anything to be sorry about since it is a free world and you can have whatever
you want on your phone nonetheless why would they have naked pictures of
themselves on their phone, once you come to think about it, it is pretty scandalous as to
why they have that photo, now on the other hand, the hackers did violate many
people’s personal and private lives which is very immoral and unethical whether
they were celebrities or non famous people, it isn’t very nice going through
the people’s personal lives and publishing them.
We can determine that
this whole misfortunate event can be both stated as a sex crime and a scandal, the victims of this unfortunate event do not have any reason to be apologizing, it is the hackers that should apologize for what they have done and punished because it isn't nice to undermine women.
